Jing Yan.

Su Qingyi had long heard of this person since the day she became Ran Yan. 

As Ran Yan, Su Qingyi was the genius of Xing Yun Sect— a genius Fu Xiu. She established Foundation Building at the age of 11, Golden Core at the age of 17, Nascent Soul at the age of 25, Enlightenment at the age of 35, and Combination Period at the age of 45. Fu Xiu’s runes and seal’s power were all borrowed from Heaven and Earth. So the most important thing for a Fu Xiu was to comprehend the Spiritual Energy of Heaven and Earth. And Ran Yan could be said to be the first person in the cultivation world to comprehend that perfectly.

It stood to reason that a genius like her should be ranked first in the world, admired and respected by many. As luck would have it, there was also Jing Yan in this world. 

Jing Yan was a Jian Xiu. Legend has it that he had an excellent foundation, natural Sword Spiritual Body, and a Variant Thunder Spiritual Root, the rarest attribute that could ever exist in the world. When he was four, the Tian Jian Sect’s Sect Leader, Yun Xuzi, took a fancy to him. Thus, he became his first direct disciple. He established Foundation Building at the age of 10, Golden Core at the age of 15, Nascent Soul at the age of 21, Enlightenment at the age of 32, and Combination Period at the age of forty-four. His advancement was always a year or two faster than Ran Yan. 

Just because of that one or two years, Ran Yan was demoted to be forever the second rank. At every turn, people say “Ran Yan-daojun is a genius!”, there would be someone who would rebuke it right away, “Tsk. You haven’t seen Tian Jian Sect Jing Yan-daojun! Now, that’s the real genius!”

Those words made Su Qingyi infuriated for ages. When she reached the Mahayana Realm, she secretly rejoiced. Finally, she could surpass Jing Yan for once in her life. 

Though, soon after, she was pierced to death by Jing Yan. 

She was besieged at that time, but she conceded something from Jing Yan’s sword. Even without the siege, Jing Yan, even if he was still in the Combination Period, was not someone that she could defeat. Her Mahayana Realm was worthless in front of him.  

Most Jian Xiu was always unrivaled. When it came to killing people stronger than them, they were the paragon. The top powerhouse of Jian Xiu, Jing Yan, who was also known as the Jian Xian^[1], was undefeated from the time he made a name for himself. The moment Su Qingyi died was the moment she learned first-hand of his strength. 

So in a sense, the name Jing Yan had been circling around Su Qingyi from her rebirth to her death, but even so, she never saw this man. She merely heard his name from the rumors. 

If she knew that one day she would become his little follower, she would at least look at his face when he stabbed her.

Su Qingyi let out a long-drawn sigh. She angled her head to study the iron bar at the door. She rose to her feet and strolled to the iron bar. A yellow talisman was pasted on the iron bar. As long as someone laid a finger on the iron bar, a trickle of lightning would wrap around the iron bar. Overseeing the periphery outside the iron bar, there were endless cliffs. The depth of the cliff couldn’t be measured. Su Qingyi kicked down a stone. She didn’t hear the echo after a long time and frowned. 

She was a Fu Xiu worthy of her name, a little lightning talisman like this wasn’t enough to trap her. But, the waste body of five Spiritual Roots couldn’t gather Qi into her body. Unless she was the protagonist, if she fell down this endless cliff, her death would be guaranteed.

She was not the protagonist. She was clear about it. So… What should she do to get out of this cave?

Just at the right time when she was vexed about it, sounds of cranes appeared from the outside. She got to her desk in a flash painted two explosion talismans and hid them in her chest. Soon afterward, she heard someone unlock the iron bar and entered the room. 

Su Qingyi feigned calmness and spun around. There, she saw a woman in a red dress. 

The woman was beautiful and slim. Her delicate appearance made it as if she couldn’t stand a gust of wind. People wouldn’t be able to resist the tender and protective feeling when looking at her. Her red dress was embroidered with golden peonies and on her head was a golden peony hairpin that jingled with her steps. Those added a bit of beauty to her fair complexion.

Who was this?

Su Qingyi was still vexed. When she had that question in her mind, a line of gold characters appeared around the woman.

Name: Su Qinglian

Age: 16

Identity: The Second Daugther of Cheng Tian City’s Lord.

Biography: She has a beautiful appearance and is knowledgeable. She reached Qi Condensation Realm at the age of 12 and perfected it at the age of 16. Her mother is the daughter of a merchant in Cheng Tian City. She is loved by the City Lord because of her delicate appearance. Her mother was a concubine. After the death of the Lord’s Main Wife, her mother is promoted to be the Main Wife. When she was young, Su Qinglian was bullied by Su Qingyi. When she was older, she was subjected to criticism because her mother is a daughter of a merchant. She pretty much wanted to take revenge on Su Qingyi. Later, she fell in love with her sister’s fiancé, Mo Yun. Hence, she framed Su Qingyi so she can marry Mo Yun. 

Oh. So this person is this body’s stepsister.

Su Qingyi glanced at the white crane resting at the entrance. She weighed some things in her heart. Su Qinglian had just perfected the Qi Condensation Realm, she was yet able to fly with a sword. She could only count on mounts like this white crane to come to this cliff. 

Mounts like these only followed their tamer words. For non-tamer, they could only rely on the Mount Order given by the tamer to control it. Whoever had the Order could control them.

Su Qinglian didn’t look like a person who could tame a mount, so she must rely on the Mount Order. Su Qingyi withdrew her gaze from the crane and sized up Su Qinglian. Aware of Su Qingyi’s eyes, Su Qinglian hooked up her lips, she came forward in a dainty manner, “Jiejie, Qinglian is here to see you.”

Well, hello, esteemed white lotus^[2].

Su Qingyi’s face was stoic, but her heart was full of unspoken criticism. 

“Jiejie,” Su Qinglian tilted her head up with a smile, “Qinglian will be married off tomorrow. Aren’t you happy?”

Su Qingyi remained taciturn. Her gaze zoomed on Su Qinglian’s waist. There was a jade plaque with the word “crane” written on it. It was obviously a Mount Order. Su Qingyi’s silence caused Su Qinglian’s smile to widen. She narrowed her eyes and coldly said,  “Seems like my Jiejie is not happy that I will be married off. “

“Should I?”

With a clear goal in mind, Su Qingyi finally had the time to waste to deal with her. She taunted, “You snatched someone’s fiancé and still want the other party to be happy. Heh. What a brazen white lotus you are.”

As soon as she spoke those words, Su Qinglian lifted her hand to slap her. Su Qingyi backed away in a blink. Su Qinglian’s face contorted. Golden light glowed from her hand and flared to tie Su Qingyi. She yanked her over and slapped her on the face. Su Qingyi’s pupils dilated at once. 

For years… She hadn’t been slapped for years!

Her head turned side-ways in a daze. Su Qinglian wore a triumphant smile on her face, “How come now you learned to hide? I have perfected my Qi Condensation Realm and you still can’t even gather Qi into your body. Have you forgotten that?”

“A perfect Qi Condensation Realm….” Su Qingyi’s corners of lips twitched in ire, “Good… Very good… It’s really amazing, a perfect Qi Condensation realm…”

With that said, Su Qingyi slid out the explosion talisman from her sleeve and blasted it. Su Qingyi’s complexion changed drastically. She retracted the golden light in her hand and swung it to cut the explosion talisman. Su Qingyi bent over and snatched the jade plaque from her waist. Along with that, she hurled another explosion talisman. 

She rolled over to the white crane while listening to Su Qinglian’s scream behind her. 

Then, she flew out on the white crane.

“Su Qingyi!!”

Su Qinglian coughed hard after she rushed out from the smoky room. Su Qingyi sent a glance to the girl at the entrance of the cave whose hair was blown up. She burst out laughing, “HAHAHAHA! You are too green to dare to challenge me!”

She drove the white crane and fled to the distance after saying that.

She asked for information as she flew. “System, where should I go now?”

“The mountain behind Xuan Tian Sect, under the Cliff of Repentance.” The System’s voice answered. Su Qingyi pondered. Xuan Tian Sect was a medium Jian Xiu sect. They had occasional contact with Xing Yun Sect before and she had been there once. She shifted the white crane around and flew towards the Xuan Tian Sect.

The white crane flew with her all day and night. At last, they arrived at the foot of Xuan Tian Sect’s mountain. She circled the mountain protection array. Her eyes brightened when she saw the cliff.

“Five hundred meters from the task location. Please adjust your direction. Flew to the west and prepare for landing.”

Su Qingyi was rendered speechless. She complained, her voice dripping with resentment, “Can’t you prompt it earlier? You make me fly around the mountain protection array in vain. Tch.”

“At present, Host’s points are only enough to detect and navigate to the task location within 500 meters.”

“What the hell is this ‘point’ thingy? How can I earn it?” Su Qingyi discerned the importance of said points, The System answered, “Strive to complete the task and create a prosperous society.”

“It’s been a long time since I heard the words prosperous society. What a novel feeling…” Su Qingyi took the white crane to descend to the bottom of the cliff.

The beauty of the spring differed from the outside world. The beauty was just right. “Say as much as you like. But,” Su Qingyi reminded with a stern face, “I will really die of cold here.”

The system was silent for three seconds. A moment later, a book plunged out of thin air with the word “True Tricks of the Trade of Five Elements Meditation” written on the cover. 

“The Host can practice this for now. As long as the Host can gather Qi to her body, this level of cold won’t freeze the Host to death.”

The System advised in a serious tone. Su Qingyi glanced at the book in her hand and the corner of her lips twitched. “If my memory serves me right, this body practiced this book and resulted in her death…”

“This one is the genuine book,” The dissatisfaction from the mechanical voice was clear, “I deducted 500 points in exchange for it.”

“500 points? Since when do I have points? How many points do I have now?”

“The Host completed the task of “Seduce the Male Lead” in the early stage and obtained 500 points. After purchasing the “True Tricks of the Trade of Five Elements Meditation”, the Host’s points are now 0. If the Host wants to check the point’s balance, the Host can click on the Host’s avatar on the screen.”

Su Qingyi was taken aback. What the hell is the “Seduce the Male Lead” task?

She thought so in her mind and the system automatically replied, “Host’s points are not enough. So, I refuse to answer.”

She decided to be magnanimous and not quarrel with the system. She turned to look at the fluorescent transparent screen ahead and clicked on her avatar. She immediately saw a few lines of words.

“What does this -80 mean?!” Su Qingyi blew up. The System honestly replied, “Obviously, it means you have a bad reputation now.”

Su Qingyi understood it in a second and could only submit herself to fate.

She glanced around, sensing her body temperature plunged. She glanced down at the “True Tricks of the Trade of Five Elements Meditation” and hugged herself. “Can I return this book and change it to a stove?”

“Can’t.”

“Even a jacket is okay.”

“Can’t.”

“System,” Su Qingyi said solemnly, “I think, even if I don’t die of cold, I’ll die of hunger. I can’t build a foundation from a waste body out of nowhere, not to say to gather the Qi into my body It’s unrealistic to rely on this book to live. I will be dead before our task target arrives.”

The System didn’t reply to her. After some time, a pile of things fell from thin air. It included a stove, iron pot, some rice, and carrots. Su Qingyi gathered these things and was almost moved to tears.

“I sneaked them for you. Don’t tell anyone about it.” There was some grievance in the system voice. Su Qingyi nodded frantically. She put the “True Tricks of the Trade of Five Elements Meditation” into her pocket and searched around, looking for some hay and firewood from the ground. She comforted the system, “System, don’t worry, I’ll never tell anyone. You’re the best system I’ve ever seen. The gentlest, the kindest, the best of the best! You must be the most good-looking一”

The system, “Quiet. I’m a little sad now. I exchanged it with my own salary.”

“Yes, yes. I will be quiet.” Su Qingyi nodded. She brought the firewood and items to a small cave she discovered. She set the things and put the firewood. She lit the stove and the firewood. She rubbed her hands and said, “Anyway, now, you are the best system in my heart.”

The System was silent. A mechanical sigh greeted her after a long time, “Host, you are really useless.”

Su Qingyi didn’t reply to it. She joyfully set up the pot. She went outside and returned with snow. Then, she threw it in the pot. 

It was snowing outside. Su Qingyi was alone by the fire in the cave. She watched the melting snow in the pot and felt her heart melt along with the snow. 

“System,” she abruptly looked forward to her future life, “Can I really find the truth?”

“Of course. As long as you follow the instructions to complete the main task.”

“After I find the truth and avenge myself, what kind of life will I live?”

“Host, I think it’s too early for you to think about this.”

“Also… What kind of person is that Jing Yan?”

“Hm… A nice person.”

“Is he gentle?”

“He is.”

“Is he kind?”

“He is.”

“Is he a person that will help others…?”

The System, “Is that question aimed at me?”

“Oh, you see through it?”

The System, “I’m an honest and professional system. I refuse to chat with you.”

“Oh.”

After a while, Su Qingyi sighed, “System. Is Jing Yan handsome?”

“Scram!!”

Jing Yan is the best. Period.

In my opinion, Mo Shu Bai’s Male Lead is more endearing than the Female Lead.

I read the review in NU, and tbh, at first, I was also like “Wtf is this FL, she is too much. Pass.” when I first read the summary haha.

I only read this novel last year because a certain someone convinced me to. Honestly, the summary given by MSB without the Author Notes painted the FL in a bad light. My bad for not including the Notes in the Nu Description. (I was banned from adding a series on NU bc I post a long Description before, so I cut the Author Notes as not to get banned again lol)

Though, when I finished the novel, I came to adore the FL and the ML, which is why I picked this up.

All in all, please re-read Chapter 1 if you have read it before because, Uh, I mistakenly omitted maaaany words in Chapter 1. Hoorah.
